If you are looking to renew your TSA Precheck any time soon, your fee just got a lot lower. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has announced the renewal fee for online renewals will be going from $85 to $70, effective Oct. 1.

“TSA PreCheck was launched 8 years ago to provide expedited airport security screening for low-risk travelers,” said TSA Administrator David Pekoske. “Our TSA PreCheck program improves overall security and we will continue to look for ways to enhance the benefits of this program for our trusted travelers.”

According to the TSA, more than 95 percent of all renewals happen online, and with the price change, the agency is encouraging those online renewals. Initial enrollment in TSA Precheck will continue to be $85 for five years, which allows the agency to administer the program.

In the month of September 2021, the TSA told the Washington Post that 96 percent of TSA Precheck passenger waited less than five minutes to go through security at an U.S. airport.

For travelers looking to enroll in TSA Precheck initially, they can submit an online application at the TSA’s website and then schedule an in-person appointment at their local airport or a nearby office. The interview also includes a background check and fingerprinting.
