Thailand is planning to relax their entry requirements beginning in February, after getting through a short Omicron COVID surge.
During a Thursday meeting of the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration, Thailand Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha and the Thai government said that travelers who are fully vaccinated or fully recovered from COVID will be able to apply online to a special visa called “Test and Go,” which will roll out on Feb. 1, 2022.
Thailand has previously rolled out a similar program, but it was suspended with the discovery of the Omicron variant.
Travelers utilizing the program will either need to be fully vaccinated or have a certificate of recent COVID-19 recovery, and will also need to take a PCR test taken within 72 hours of departure and another one when they arrive in Thailand. The program will allow them to enter the country without quarantining.
Thailand relies heavily on their tourism industry, and the move is the latest attempt to welcome foreign travelers.
The travelers will also be required to show proof of a hotel booking at a “government-approved” hotel and a transfer to and from the airport. They will also need to download Thailand’s ‘MorChana’ app, which tracks COVID among its users.
