Hawaiian Airlines is the first major airline to sign a contract with Starlink to provide their broadband internet service to their transatlantic flights between the Hawaiian Islands and the continental United States, Asia, and Oceania.
Hawaiian Airlines will include the service on their Airbus A330, A321neo, and Boeing 787-9 aircrafts. They will not be installing the service on their Boeing 717s that operate short flights between the Hawaiian Islands.
“When we launch with Starlink we will have the best connectivity experience available in the air,” said Hawaiian Airlines President and CEO Peter Ingram. “We waited until technology caught up with our high standards for guest experience, but it will be worth the wait. Our guests can look forward to fast, seamless and free Wi-Fi to complement our award-winning onboard Hawaiian hospitality.”
Starlink runs low-Earth orbit satellites, which provide reliable, high-speed Internet service. The service will allow passengers to stream content, play games live with people on the ground, and do other things they would be able to do from their home Internet.
The installation of Starlink on Hawaiian Airlines’ planes will begin in early 2023.
